Vocabulary
• Compose sentences with the words you are studying. Try different contexts, and check with your teacher.
Grammar
• Be on the lookout for rules. Don't wait for someone to point out a rule. Look for it yourself.
Listening
• Try to find songs that match your goal and level. Do the songs contain the Vocabulary or Pronunciation features you want to practice? Do you want songs that tell a story, with a wide range of vocabulary, or do you want songs with a lot of repetition?

• Read something with lots of pictures.

• Make friends from English speaking countries.

• Write a journal in English to record your daily life experiences.
3. in the grammar group, i click in "Grammar Exercises" where i try the irregular verbs, practice the "exercise on irregular verbs" level 3 geting 10 out of 20 points
4. in "Tv series & Movies" group y click "Learn English with TV Series" were it send me to a youtube channel and i watched ratatouille with a english analysis, and i feel i understood what the video say
5.in "APPs and AI" group i click "Languatalk", i was talking with a ai about China is being more powerful that USA

2. These are the 5 strategies that I chose:
Reading
*Read aloud some of the dialogues in your reading. Or ask someone to read aloud with you. You may find listening to the story more interesting
Speaking
*Make friends from English speaking countries
*Practice situations when you are alone, perhaps in front of a mirror. Imagine introducing yourself, disagreeing with someone's ideas, being interviewed or asking for information. If you can get someone to help, assign parts and do role - playing
Listening
*Set yourself a goal. It's best not to aim too high, unless you have lots of time free to dedicate to your listening. Think of one or two aspects of your listening that you'd like to improve
*Try to find songs that match your goal and level. Do the songs contain the Vocabulary or Pronunciation features you want to practice? Do you want songs that tell a story, with a wide range of vocabulary, or do you want songs with a lot of repetition?
3.To improve my grammar i chose the website "Grammar exercises" where i did exercise on Phrasal verbs and i had to complete the sentences using the phrasal verbs of (on, up, down)
4. To improve my english by watching videos and lessons, i chose the website "Learn english with TV series" it is a youtube channel where i watched an episode of SpongeBob with Subtitles, that's how I learned vocabulary and improved my listening skills
5. In the "APPs and AI" group i chose Scispace, i was just talking to the AI and asked it about strategies for building healthy habits
6. To improve my listening comprehension i chose the website: listening online exercises, where i listened to a B1-level audio and answered the four questions correctly
7. To improve my reading comprehension i read a story on the website "Storynory" and the story that i read is this:

2. I have chosen the following strategies.
Vocabulary
• Record the words and their definitions, if you prefer to learn through the ear. Listen to the track as many times as you need to achieve 100% retention on a self-test.
Grammar
• Learn the rules. Make sure that you understand how a particular rule works.
• Avoid repeated errors. Try to understand why you consistently make a certain kind of error. You are not clear about the rule? You have totally misunderstood the rule?
• Be patient. It is impossible to learn, much less remember all the rules in a limited period of time. Work on your grammar diligently. One rule at a time and lots of practice and reviewing are good operating principles.
Speaking
• Practice situations when you are alone, perhaps in front of a mirror. Imagine introducing yourself, disagreeing with someone's ideas, being interviewed or asking for information. If you can get someone to help, assign parts and do role - playing.
3. At this point, I worked on the "grammar exercises" and practiced irregular verbs, since that’s what I find most difficult.
4. In the "TV Series and Movies" group, I went to ELLLO and watched an episode of "Rick and Morty" in English with subtitles.
5. For "AI Apps," I chose chattybots, and I talk about my goals for the rest of the year.
6. In the listening group, I went to ELLLO and l between Patricia and John who are Canadian about robots and AI.
7. To practice my reading, I went to "ONLINE FREE BOOKS" and read a bit of “Grimm's Fairy Tales”; I read that it contains 62 stories featuring characters like Hansel and Gretel, Rapunzel, Rumpelstiltskin, and Snow-White.
8. in pronunciation, I used an AI to help me improve and give me tips on how to get better.
Hi!! My name is Daisy Yuliana Blandon Castaño and this is my opinion and report on this activity. First, I had a great moment during the development of this exercise, because the blog is unbelievable and I discovered many tools for the studying of English.
ReplyDelete1-In the first activity I chose the song: "UNDERNEATH YOUR CLOTHES by SHAKIRA"
And I had never listened to this song but I liked it so much because I listen to every type of music. Additionally, Shakira helped me to improve my listening because her pronunciation and her accent, in my opinion, are really good but a little confusing. Overall I really enjoyed this activity.
2-The learning strategies that I want to practice and I want to include in my personal plan are:
• Put the words and their definitions on individual cards. Include a sample sentence that illustrates how the word may be used in context.
• Find songs that have got printed lyrics (words). Even native speakers often mishear the words of some songs. So having the lyrics available is really vital when listening in a second language.
• Read something short and easy to begin with, for example, news headlines, comics, or even signs you find in the streets and public places.
• Practise reading aloud - get someone to check your pronunciation and intonation, or record yourself on tape and analyse your own speech.
• Practice situations when you are alone, perhaps in front of a mirror. Imagine introducing yourself, disagreeing with someone's ideas, being interviewed or asking for information.
• Write book reports, film reviews.
With these learning strategies I know that I can learn and comprehend English!!
3-In the third exercise, I completed an activity in "Grammar exercises" where I reinforced my knowledge of the simple past. Here, I reviewed "What it is, its use, its structural form , its irregular verbs, and the exceptions to the rules". Later I completed many writing exercises with positive and negative sentences.
4- In "ESL video" i watched two videos, the first was about ordering fast food because this is a situation in real life, and the second video was "HELLO BY Adele" where i practiced my listening and comprehension of the British English accent.
5-In "Apps and AI" I talked with Scispace and that was so amazing, We talked about climate change and the "EL NIÑO" phenomenon, here, I practiced my writing and texts production.
6-In this activity I watched and completed the "LISTENING AND ONLINE EXERCISES" where I could choose my English level and practice my listening with the people's conversations, and later I respond to questions about the conversations.
7-This is probably one of my favorite activities, I really like reading books or stories so I love this exercise, I read the story "THE STOLEN BICYCLE" in the website: AUDIOSTORY, this is a story about a bear and monkey, who stole a little girl's bicycle one day while she was staying at home, and they used the bicycle all over the jungle, until one day the little girl saw them and cried for her bicycle, because of this, the bear and the monkey decided to return the bicycle to the little girl.
8- Here I practiced my pronunciation wiht "NATURAL READERS" using one of my favorite songs: P.Y.T (PRETTY YOUNG THING) by MICHAEL JACKSON

6) I did an activity on ELLO where the topic was listening to a segment about musical talents and responding
7) The Crown That Hurt tells the story of Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, who protects the Buddhist monk Tripitaka on his journey to India. Sun Wukong is very powerful but also violent and disobedient. To control his behavior, Tripitaka uses a magical golden crown that causes Sun Wukong pain whenever he disobeys. Through this experience, Sun Wukong learns that he must control his actions and respect his teacher

ReplyDeleteI practiced with Stand By Me by Ben E. King, it's a slow song, and I like it .I usually listen to all kinds of music; I don't have a favorite genre.
These are the strategies I will try to include in my personal plan:
• Learn the rules, making sure I understand how a specific rule works.
• Avoid repeating mistakes by practicing consistently with dynamic exercises.
• Look for fun songs that come with written lyrics.
• Start by reading something short and simple, keeping my level and preferences in mind.
• Read texts with plenty of images to get an idea of what is happening in the text.
• Practice scenarios when I am alone—perhaps in front of a mirror. I’ll imagine introducing myself, explaining an idea to someone, being interviewed, or asking for information.
• Write down words and their definitions on individual flashcards. Include an example sentence that illustrates how the word is used in context.
The site I used was Grammar Exercise; I practiced the simple past through exercises, recalling the most common past-tense verbs (both irregular and regular), and remembering the rules by writing sentences as well.
The app I used was ESL Video, and the video I watched was a song where I could follow the transcript while listening; I also answered some questions at the end. I think my skills were good, although I should practice a bit more.
in “Apps and AI” I use Chattybot. I introduced myself and we pretended to be friends; we talked about what I like and my hobbies.
The website I visited was Listen Short Story; there, I completed a short exercise about a woman going shopping, which covered Wh- questions, vocabulary, and comprehension.
The site where I read and listened to the story was Storynory, and the story was "The Bear’s Breakfast." It is about a bear that enters a house, causing the family to hide; it eats their breakfast and looks for more food, but finally scares the family and realizes it shouldn't do that.
The app I used was NaturalReader; I used a text containing words I didn't know how to pronounce, so I could listen to how they are said and learn how I should pronounce them.

•I am going to practice my vocabulary with the app “Duolingo”. This app is so useful if you want to learn more vocabulary. So the idea is to practice every day keeping a streake.
•One of the most effective strategies to improve my pronunciation is watching movies in English with subtitles, so I am going to try to watch my favorite movies in english.
•Also I am going to listen to music in english because through music, you can learn in a more interactive and fun way.
•I'm going to try to read short texts that interest me in order to improve my English reading skills.
•I'm going to have conversations with friends where we will speak only English and try to make sure the other person understand, so I can practice my speaking and listening skills.
3.I entered an English grammar exercise where I found “pool of exercises”. In this section, I did the activity that consists in order the parts of a sentence in past simple, present simple, past progressive, present progressive and I learned easier strategies to recognize the grammar of each sentence that I can find
4.I selected “Learn English with TV programs” and I watched the Simpsons video. I found it really interesting because The Simpsons are my favorite cartoon, and it was easy for me to understand while I laughed a little.
5.In this point I practiced the section "Foods and Drinks," so I had a conversation with a chatbot as if I was talking with a friend
6.In this point I entered in ELLLO where I selected “beginner english”, in this part I wanted to use the activity “favorite foods”. My listening and pronunciation skills are good but can be better

4. In the "TV Series and Movies" group I clicked on "Learn English with TV Series", I watched a video of "Madagascar" paying attention to what they say in order to understand everything.
5. In the "AI Apps" group, I clicked on "Languagetalk" and asked it to give me a guided course on activities that interest me.
6. In the listening group, I clicked on "Listen to short stories," where I listened to a story called "Jerry decided to buy a gun," and I listened to and read the story.
7. In the "reading" group I clicked on Storynote and read "Chicken Little", an American story, which caught my attention.
8. For pronunciation, I used Gemini to talk to him and have him correct my mistakes.

2. I will apply the strategies analyzed in the blog.
I will create vocabulary flashcards with context: I'll write down each new word, its definition, and a sample sentence on individual cards to make sure I understand how to use it in real-life situations.
I will research grammar rules on my own and be patient: I won't wait for everything to be explained to me; I'll actively look up rules, study them one at a time through exercises, and give my memory the time it needs to master them.
I will set clear goals when practicing listening with music: I'll choose songs I enjoy that match my level and specific goals (like learning vocabulary or improving pronunciation), always using written lyrics to support my understanding.
I will start with short, visual readings: I'll begin with simple texts, news headlines, comics, or stories with plenty of pictures, and practice reading dialogues aloud to better connect the words with their sounds.

3. I enter in grammar englishpage, I learned everything this site offers, I visited the vocabularies in Unique Personalities Vocabulary in Conversation
4. I used the ELLLO website and went into the Music Genres lesson. I found it very interesting; however, I feel a bit weak in my pronunciation and listening comprehension aspects.
5. I used Languatalk; it's a good AI and it works for practicing if you don't have anyone to talk with.
6. I used the Listening online exercises website, I did the B1 English Family Reunion activity, listening to the audio and answering the questions.
7. I visited the "Listen and read to news" website and read "Speed Reading — Influencers".
A summary of the topic is: Some influencers are risking their lives by swimming with and touching sharks to get the perfect photo, leading to a rise in dangerous attacks and injuries. Shark experts warn that these reckless stunts are sending a hazardous message to followers, making them think it is safe to interact with apex predators.
8. I used Natural Readers and tried to read and pronounce a text with Andrew's voice. I found the page very useful for practicing before presenting, and I noticed that I have flaws in my pronunciation, but thanks to this tool I can work on them.

2) The learning strategies that I'm going to use are there:

3) I use the English Page, in this I practiced my grammar and my current knowledge of many words.
Which hadn't previously been part of my vocabulary, allowed me to practice and familiarize myself with them. I like this page so much.I also practiced regular and irregular verbs. For example, regular verbs can change from “play” to “played,” while irregular verbs can change from “go” to “went.” The exercises helped me understand how to use the past tense correctly.
4) I saw the first episode of South Park, it has an amusing plot, i really like this so much, the episode talks about aliens and dreams that have some of the main characters. I chose it because it was funny and different from the typical English lessons. It was sometimes difficult to understand everything because the characters speak quickly and use informal expressions. However, watching the episode helped me practice my listening skills and understand English in a more natural and entertaining way.
5) I explored Loora, an AI app for practicing English. I used it to practice speaking and having conversations in English. I talked about everyday topics and tried to answer questions without translating everything into Spanish first. The activity helped me improve my confidence, vocabulary, and fluency. I think AI is useful because I can practice whenever I have free time.
6) I chose ESL Video from the listening comprehension options on the blog. I completed an activity according to my English level and answered questions after listening to the audio or video. The activity helped me identify the main ideas and important details. I found some parts challenging, especially when the speakers talked quickly, but it was useful for improving my listening comprehension.
7) I listened to “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” It is a funny story about an emperor who cares too much about his clothes. Some people trick him into believing that he is wearing beautiful clothes that only intelligent people can see. Everyone pretends to see the clothes because they are afraid of looking stupid. In the end, a child tells the truth and says that the emperor is actually not wearing any clothes. I liked the story because it is funny and also teaches us that it is important to be honest and not simply follow what everyone else says.
8) I used Natural Readers to practice my pronunciation. First, I listened to the pronunciation of a short English text. Then, I recorded myself reading the same text with Vocaroo and listened to my recording. When I compared my pronunciation with the Natural Reader's voice, I noticed some differences in my pronunciation and intonation. This activity helped me identify the words I need to practice more and improve my speaking rhythm.

ReplyDelete1. I used LyricsTraining and worked through two songs by Royal Blood, doing "Come On Over" at easy level and "Figure It Out" at intermediate level. I usually listen to rock, but honestly I listen to many kinds of music depending on my mood. When I train I sometimes choose to listen to pop rock or metal, for example Slipknot or Suicideboys, since their songs are very difficult and the lyrics are similar to English rap, but I do enjoy them.
2. The five strategies I chose are simple and practical, things I can really do in a short time:
* Write down a few new words each day and make my own simple sentences with them.
* Listen to English songs with the lyrics and sing along, to practice pronunciation and listening.
* Spend five minutes before sleeping thinking in English about what I did during the day.
* Study only one grammar point at a time and do a few exercises, not too many.
* When I don't know how to say something, say it with simple words and don't stop.
3. I used the website English Grammar Online to practice the simple past. I did the three tests they had. The exercises were about remembering irregular verbs, changing sentences to past, ordering words and choosing the correct option. In general I did well: in the first test I got 32 out of 35, in the second one 30 out of 35, and the others were similar. After practicing, I understood many verbs that I used to confuse.
4. I entered ESL Video and watched an intermediate video called "Human Body 101" from National Geographic. My score was 18 out of 20. The video explains many things about the systems of the body, the brain, and how gases, oxygen and blood affect us. Some words were new for me, but the video was clear and I understood most of it.
5. I used Chattybot, level 4, with the topic "Community Events" using the present perfect structure. I asked the questions like "What kind of community event do you enjoy most?", "Have you ever gone to a local festival?", "How do you find out about events?" and others. It was good practice for the present perfect, but sometimes the chatbot didn't recognize my words exactly; it took some words that were similar but not the same. Still, it was useful to practice.
6. I chose ELLLO, level B1, and did several quizzes. One of them was "Student Life in China Part 1." I did very well in these activities. Some audios had difficult accents, like the one about tips for traveling in Nepal or the one about hotels and Christmas, but that is the good thing about this page: it has a huge amount of audios from all over the world, each one with quizzes.
7. In Storynory I read and listened to the story "Journey to the West: How the Monk Freed the Monkey." The story continues with Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, who was punished by the Buddha and trapped under a mountain for 500 years. Meanwhile, the emperor of China sends the Buddhist monk Tripitaka to India to get the sacred scriptures. On the way, a tiger attacks Tripitaka and a hunter saves him. The next day, Tripitaka hears a voice from inside the mountain: it is Sun Wukong, who explains that he has been a prisoner for 500 years and that Guanyin told him a monk would come to free him. In exchange for his freedom, Wukong promises to protect Tripitaka on his journey. To free him, Tripitaka climbs to the top of the mountain, finds an orange paper with the mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum," and repeats it until the door opens and Sun Wukong is free. This is how their adventure together begins. The main idea is that Tripitaka frees Sun Wukong and they start a great journey to find the sacred scriptures.
8. I also recorded myself reading the same story and compared my audio with the NaturalReader voice. Obviously, they were very different. One mistake I make a lot is trying to follow the rhythm or speak too fast when I know I still don't have the practice to connect words like native speakers do.

It isn´t complete because it´s too long, but here is a part of it. I did the exercise to listen the song and complete some words, it wasn´t so bad but my performance was lower, I got fun making this activity.

3. At this point I’ve got to learn about past tense, and I choose the website “englishpage.com”
On the topics I watched it divides the topic past tense in five units, but the most important it´s the first that explain in its essence how to use this structure, you use this when in a verb you add at final part of the word “ed”, exists some verbs that doesn´t follow these rules, they’re irregular verbs. I did an exercise that consisted in complete blanks with the words or verbs converted in the its past tense and my performance was normal 73% answers correct.
4. In this part I watched a short by the Netflix’s series “You” and when I listen that, I understood very well each word, due I was reading the subtitles, so I’ve got disadvantages listening words, that’s a skill that I’d like to improve, because without them I probably won’t able to get the ideas and for the pronunciation part I repeated the monologue before the short and I know my pronunciation it isn’t so well.
5. I used the webpage “Languatalk” to talk about anything, the AI voices that it seems funny and also that I was nervous to talk English again because I left it abandoned for much time, in a general aspect I able to talk a little bit well, decent but I think should practice more frequently.
6. I used “Elllo” and I watch a video from level A1-01, it’s about a new student from New York and her first day at school in a small town, her friend Antonio explains and receive this student, some words I got it, a little bit it isn’t, but my level is enough.

2. After analyzing my learning process, I chose 5 strategies to include in my personal work plan:

Through this, I learned to better differentiate affirmative, negative, and interrogative structures in the simple past and to reinforce the points I need to keep practicing.

4. I visited Ororo TV. I watched an episode of the series BoJack Horseman. I understood most of the episode and learned new vocabulary. My listening was good, but I need to practice my pronunciation more.

2. Learning strategies
• Vocabulary: Compose sentences with the words you are studying. Try different contexts, and check with your teacher.
• Grammar: Learn the rules. Make sure that you understand how a particular rule works.
• Listening: Find songs that have got printed lyrics (words). Even native speakers often mishear the words of some songs. So having the lyrics available is really vital when listening in a second language.
• Speaking: Practise reading aloud - get someone to check your pronunciation and intonation, or record yourself on tape and analyse your own speech.
• Writing: Imitate. Imitate native speakers’ writing.

I read the story Grimm's Fairy Tales. In this story, they tell you a little about the book's story and what it's based on.

For pronunciation, I used AI by talking to it and asking for feedback on my pronunciation. I think my pronunciation is somewhere in the middle, and by listening to things in English, I think I can improve.

ReplyDelete2.Well, the main problem in my process is the grammar, I think that i have a good pronunciation, listening and speaking, but I confuse the order of some words and the structure of the conversation, the other problem is that forgot many words, like im talking with a person and I don´t remember what can I say for explain my idea. I choose my strategy based on my problem with the grammar and the words,
- I want to search a book, a book that I want in spanish but read it in English, my first option is 451 farenheit but I also look for the mistborn saga (this was a recommendation) so I want to buy one of this and read slowly, searching for new words and analyze the grammatic structure.
- My second strategy is listen more English music with a medium level of complex, actually I listen this kind of music but I think that have complex words and a informal use of the language so is hard learn of this.
- I try to talk with me in English when im alone like if im in a work of my career I try to follow my instructions in English and think the ideas in this language, the other thing that I include in this strategy is talk with people that come from another contry, Im training muay thai and in my classes we have many of this kind of people so I try to talk with they in English and try an informal conversation.
- I change the language of my phone and I try to search information in English like the things that I need AI I use the English.
- I try to study in English, in my career we don’t have exams or something like that but I need learn about other architects that can give many ideas so I been watching videos in English about this, for the search of this channels I use chat gpt and he give me many channels whit different objectives, the first one was about history, the second about design and the last one about technical aspects (this is the hardest in my opinion).
3.I try to make an exercise of grammar using the present perfect in the page English grammar online but my level was so bad, i only reach a 5/10.
4. for this point I use ESLvideo and choosed the video i love your product and i reach a 100% of corrects answers, so i think that i have a good level in this skill.

I used LyricsTraining to practice my listening. I like pop and urban music, especially songs in English, because they help me practice my listening and learn new vocabulary. So, I chose the song “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran because I like it and I think it is useful for practicing English. I completed the missing words while listening to the song. Sometimes it was difficult to understand some words because of the pronunciation, but I could understand most of the song.
2. Learning Strategies
I think one of my main difficulties when learning English is listening. Sometimes it is difficult for me to understand people because they speak very quickly or connect words when they talk. Also, I do not have many people around me who speak English fluently, so I do not have many opportunities to practice and learn from real conversations.
Another difficulty I have is grammar, especially knowing when and where to use auxiliary verbs. Because of this, I want to focus on listening, speaking, grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation.
The five strategies I will include in my personal plan are:

• Choose a song or singer that you enjoy!

3. For grammar, I visited both links on the blog (English Page and Grammar Exercises). I reviewed the past tense exercises as requested, along with vocabulary about personalities and prepositions.
4. I used the ESL Video website and completed the activity about ordering food. I did very well on this task and understood most of what was said in the video without needing to use the transcript.
5. I tried the AI tool Chattybots, which was fun and dynamic. I practiced at Level 1 with an exercise about saying my name and spelling it out. At first, I got a bit mixed up at the start of the conversation, but I quickly got the hang of it.
6. I accessed the ESL-Lab site and completed the activity on the "Happy Birthday" topic. The task consisted of listening to an audio track and selecting the correct answers to the questions according to my level.
7. I found the story I listened to on Storyline Online. The book is called "Zombies Don't Eat Veggies!", read by Jaime Camil. It is about a zombie family consisting of the parents and their son. The boy is different because he likes vegetables, so he tries to convince his parents to eat them. In the end, they accept that their son is different and let him eat vegetables.
8. I pasted a short excerpt from the story "Zombies Don't Eat Veggies!" into Natural Reader and listened to the correct pronunciation to practice.

I record the words and their definitions because I prefer to learn by listening. I listen to the recording as many times as necessary until I have a good grasp of the words for self-assessment.
Grammar
I learn the rules and make sure I understand how each one works.
I avoid making the same mistakes repeatedly. I try to understand why I make a particular mistake, whether it's because I'm not clear on the rule or because I've interpreted it incorrectly.
I am patient with myself because I know it's impossible to learn and remember all the rules in a short time. I work on my grammar consistently, learning one rule at a time, practicing, and reviewing frequently. Oral Expression

Through this activity, I was able to practice my writing and improve my English writing skills. I was also able to express my ideas, learn some new vocabulary related to these topics, and strengthen my ability to communicate information clearly.
6. In this activity, I completed the online listening exercises, where I could select my English level and practice my listening comprehension through different conversations. After listening to each dialogue several times, I answered questions related to the information presented. This activity helped me significantly improve my ability to understand spoken English, identify words and expressions with relative ease, and pay attention to the important details of each conversation.
7. This was perhaps one of my favorite activities, as I enjoyed it very much. On the AUDIOSTORY website, I read the story "The Stolen Bicycle," a tale about a bear and a monkey who steal a girl's bicycle and ride it through the jungle. Realizing how sad the girl was, they decided to return her bicycle.
8. In this activity, I practiced my English pronunciation using Natural Readers with the song "Pretty Young Thing" by Michael Jackson. It was a fun way to improve my pronunciation and familiarize myself with how English words and expressions are pronounced through music.
